week thirty-one

okay wow!  it's a little hard to think that we could, for all intent purposes, be meeting our little bundle of girl in six weeks.  six weeks!!! if she's anything like her older brother she'll come early, fast and furious.  at my last midwife appointment they were very insistent on the fact that i call them right when i start having regular contractions.  my labour with liam was a total of seven hours, first contraction (that i really noticed) to delivery of a healthy baby boy.  i've been told that the second time round it tends to go much faster.  um, i would like to actually make it to the birth centre to deliver instead of the side of the road please.  now that we're getting so close i feel more and more of the excitement that has been lacking.  i washed a bunch of teeny tiny pink clothes and have been bombarded by girly baby gifts from staff and students at work.  as excited as i'm getting, i can wait a little longer ... still need some quality time with the little dude and some adult dates before she arrives.

how far along? thirty-one weeks
total weight gain:  actually not sure.  i didn't step on the scale once this week.  not intentionally, but it just so happens i just don't really care.  i'll find out at my appointment on thursday.
maternity clothes?  i'm thinking that i should find some way of making a mu-mu fashionable again.  the weather is starting to get hot again around here and seeing as clothing is not optional, i'm looking more for comfort and comfort these days.
stretch marks?  zero!
sleep: this week has been one really good night sleep and three really bad nights, repeat.  i can't get comfortable and i'm way too hot.
best moment this week:  this was a crazy week.  it didn't start off too well.  we ended up going to the hospital on monday night because i was having contractions and some bleeding.  my midwife wanted to make sure that i wasn't going into pre-term labour.  thank the stars, i wasn't.  it turns out they think i just have an irritable uterus, not uncommon in a second pregnancy.  crisis averted.  after monday night things could only get better.  and they did.  i finished out the last few days of the school year and now every day of the week has become saturday!!  woo hoo.
miss anything?
food cravings:  coconut water.  i cannot get enough of this.  i've gone through almost four litres since tuesday.
anything making your queasy or sick: just the heartburn.
gender: girl
labour signs: braxton hicks.  and let's keep it that way for at least another six weeks please baby girl.
symptoms:  heartburn.
belly button in or out? in
wedding rings on or off?  wearing both my rings again.
happy or moody most of the time?  happy all week, despite the lack of sleep.  i think it's because i knew that i wasn't going to have to get up to an alarm after friday.
looking forward to: playing all day with liam.  going to the water park in our community every day that it's sunny and splashing.  eating homemade fruit popsicles and enjoying every single moment we have as a family of three.

  1. Love the foot-eclipse photo! Sorry you had a bit of a scare, but glad to hear it was nothing abnormal. I understand being a bit worried about having another fast labour - Evan's was 4 hours from water breaking to birth! ACK!

  2. It must be such a relief to be done with work now. Like you say, every day is a Saturday now and you can make the most of your last weeks as a family of three. It sounds like you're still doing really well, apart from that little scare on Monday, and you look fab!
But don't get your heart set on her being early. My friend who had her first little boy at 37 weeks has just gone a week overdue before having her baby girl. She wasn't in as much of a hurry to appear as her brother had been.

    1. So happy to finally be done! I have all my fingers and toes crossed that we don't go to 42 weeks. But knowing this little girl she's going to be difficult to the end, just like her momma. Sometimes karma sucks :)
