get outside

ugggggghhhhh.  we've been cooped up in our house for months weeks forever.  it's been the longest, coldest winter that i remember having in a long long long time.  and it started freaking early.  we've still got a massive snow pile separating our driveway from the neighbours and it's been so effing cold.  minus forty with wind chill.  wtf?  it's only allowed to be that cold in february.  and for like a day.  the end.

apparently mother nature overheard my weather cursing because within the last five days we've had a thirty degree temperature increase.  good timing because i think all of us were going a little cray cray.  we tossed on some rubber boots and went hunting for puddles.  so nice to be outside, enjoy the sun and not have your nose hairs or eyelashes freeze.  hope it sticks around for awhile good.

life {lately} ~ vol. 27

almost a month since i last dumped my phone pics.

it's been super duper cold here.

like minus forty with the wind chill cold.

um, isn't it march??

we're pretty much done with the cold, i could do with some spring.

and although it's been effing freezing, life has continued to be crazy and fun.

hunting for new bedding for liam.

finished the mudroom bench cushions, with the exception of the added the velcro.

guess that only makes them mostly, almost, 95% finished.

another family road trip ski weekend.  this time to fernie.

completed our first attempt at hanging wallpaper.  more on this later.

life {lately} ~ vol. 25

the past week or so has had it's share of ups and downs.

i'm down with a cold right now, rob and averie are coming down with it too.

liam seems to be alright, but i'm sure i've jinxed it now.

hopefully the colds won't last long.

before the plague sniffles hit us we were having a lot of ups.

kitchen painting is almost done, in fact the last coat is going on today.

may have taken us the entire month of january to finish, but it'll be worth it.

life {lately} ~ v. 18

so, we've been busy.

fall bike rides.  fall walks.  fall leaves.

best season ever.

averie is starting to walk ... well it's more like drunken sailor walking.  

but still, technically that is walking.

open season

last weekend (not this past father's day weekend, the one before) we did our first camping trip of the season.  it was also our first time with both kids in tow.  i still can't believe how much stuff our two little people require for two days and two nights.  somehow we managed to pack everything into the tent trailer and headed west to johnson's canyon in banff national park.  i don't want to mention all the things we forgot, but to be fair this was the first trip out and we consider it our trial run.  we've now started a master camping list in the hopes of forgetting fewer things in the future.  kinda hard to roast marshmallows and hot dogs without your roasting sticks.

liam had a blast running to see the trains as they passed by (got a site close to the tracks just for that reason) playing in the forest and visiting the waterfalls.  he's still talking about them and tells pretty much anyone who'll listen that he saw trains last night.  and averie girl was more than happy to be held in someone's arms for the entire weekend ... thanks gramma, auntie nix and uncle scott.  for us, there's nothing better than camping in the mountains with friends and family.  seriously one of the best parts of summer.

saskatoon berry farm

a week ago saturday, in the blazing heat, we headed south of town to do some saskatoon berry picking.  there is a saskatoon farm about twenty minutes south of calgary.  i've lived here my entire life and i never knew that.  picked up gramma before noon and headed out to the farm.  it's super cute.  old buildings on the site, fresh veggies, ice cream and of course everything saskatoon berry related.  we thought we were being so smart by going to pick berries when it was so damn hot.  apparently everyone else had the same bright idea.

we had a great time, until liam had a bit of a melt down.  okay it was a complete and total meltdown and not just once, but a few times.  what can you do?  it's hard being two.  we were still able to pick two full buckets of saskatoon berries.  enough for both gramma and i to make jam and freeze the rest for pie making in the fall.

wordless{ish} wednesday ~ get wet

what do you do when it is freaking hot out?  get wet.  and that's just what we did on monday.  played with the hose, the sprinkler and in the splash pool.  and it wasn't just liam who was staying cool.  rob and i taught liam to spray us with the hose using the mist setting.  it was basically the only way i was able to cool off in this un-relenting heat.  we're still in for a few more really hot days here and then a bit of a cool down.  i pray for rain every night.  and seriously wish we had air conditioning.  until then, we'll just continue to get wet.
