making food fun

over the last couple months i've been creating fun food for liam.  everything from cheesy egg faces to elaborate cat in the hat themed muffin tin lunches.  to say that he loves his fun lunch/breakfast/snacks is an understatement.  he's always so excited when i present him with something fun.  "you made this for me mommy?"  and "oh wow!"  both of these statements alone are the reason why i put in the effort.  not only does he think his food (and maybe his mom) is super cool, but he pretty much eats everything in front him as well.  now i don't do this every day for every meal.  that would be borderline ridiculous. but it's fun to do it every few days for a "treat".  i mean he's got to eat anyway.  it also helps to switch things up so we don't get stuck in a "cheesy noodles and peas" rut.

i started searching pinterest for creative toddler lunches (as you do) and came across a wicked blog.  meet the dubiens.  jill is completely amazing at the fun cute food she creates for her littles.  armed with her ideas, some of my own and my pinterest board on my ipad i was pretty much ready to go.  i did order a few things from amazon to help out; fun cookie cutters, a car lunch punch set, icing eyes and cake gel.  most of which can be used later when lunches and snacks like these become "lame".  in the mean time i'll just keep making fun things for my little dude to eat.

here's a peak at some of the food liam's been eating.  although i love doing this for him as much as he loves eating it, i know it won't last forever.  i'm back to work as of the end of august and both kiddos will be going to their day home full time.  perhaps it'll continue as a weekend things or i'll just make fun snacks for him to take to preschool, meet the dubiens style.

happy eating!
