liamisms ~ vol. 3

listening to liam these days is part "where did you come up with that?" and part "you should go on tour with that bit."  i seriously love this kid.  most days he drives me absolute nuts and then he says something that totally makes up for it.  you never really know what you're going to get.  could be totally random, could be funniest thing we've heard all day.  we just never know and really, that's the awesome part.  here's some of the random/funny things that have left his lips as of late.

"daddy i'm the boss of the christmas lights, and your the boss too.  and mommy's the boss too.  but not averie.  she's only a little bit of the boss."

me: take that book out of the tree please.
liam: no, never!

to me after i ate my dinner "you're going to get big like a monster?"

"i'm never going to get a present." (said after he refused to eat his dinner)

"ironman is coming to our house on tuesday."

"you're gonna smell like boobs over there."

"mommy your necklace looks like a slide."

"your not santa.  i'm so cross with you guys."

liam: i'm building a castle.
rob: a castle?
liam: yeah, a castle of noodles.

"dad, pigs can't have muffins.  only people and cows."

life {lately} ~ vol. 23: the most wonderful time of year

first, i just realized that most of these are of averie.
guess i was a little more paparazzi with her than with liam.
and second, the last two weeks have flown by.
christmas came and went, it was both joyful and triumphant.
we said good-bye to hermey and a see ya next year.
liam looked for him on christmas morning and was a little sad that he was gone.
then he realized santa had come and everything was okay.
presents were opened, merry christmas was said, eggnog lattes and mimosas were consumed.
this was of course followed with the playing of toys and the eating of turkey.
we had some sleddin' action and snow angel building.
liam hit the slopes for the first time and rob and i got a couple runs in too.
we said good-bye 2013.
and welcome 2014.

that was our last two, pretty fantastic, weeks.

new year, new look, new goals

happy new year!  happy 2014!  happy new blog design!

in case you didn't notice, it's kinda hard to miss i know, we got a face lift.  i'd been looking for a new blog design since i can't remember when.  it's been a long time though.  i think i said "that's it, that's the one" to rob about a dozen times.  then i found this one and knew it actually was the one.  it's cheery colours match the feeling that i want my blog to give off and i couldn't pass on having a deer head.  it's the best part.  thanks 17th avenue designs.  you guys are pretty awesome and so are your designs.

once again, happy new year.  it's hard to believe that it's 2014.  somehow time just doesn't seem as endless as it once was.  2013 was full of ups and downs for us and to be honest i wasn't sad to see it end.  i'm a big believer in moving on and embracing change.  in fact i crave change.  it was time for 2013 to end, and not just in the literal sense.  it's time for the new.  new adventures, new experiences, new challenges and obstacles.  and so to that i say bring it on 2014.

for the last couple years i've spent a little bit of time, and i mean like fifteen minutes little, thinking about all the things we accomplished or didn't, experiences we had or didn't, house projects with did or didn't, milestones our offspring hit, and highlights we had as a family and that i had for myself.  not to get all insightful on you, remember i only spent fifteen ten minutes on this, but it was nice to think about those things in order to figure out what sort of direction i/we want to set for the year ahead.  i've seen so many things on pinterest and blogs i follow about "a word for this year."  it's a pretty good idea so i decided to try it.  and of course in true fashion i couldn't just choose a single word.  just to be difficult, you know.  this year my mantra/word or whatever you want to call it is:  get'er done.  as in finish the projects i start.  shit, just start the damn projects in the first place.  as in i want to have more family play/fun/craft time on weekends ... get'er done.  as in i want to date my husband more often ... get'er done.  basically do the things that make me happy, and quit talking about doing them.  and would you look at that, i'm already off to a good start.  wanted a face lift for my blog, get'er got'er done.

here are the things that i am hoping/striving/no excuses going to get'er done in 2014.

~  run more, and run in the 10 km mothers day race.
~  read four books this year.  think i only read two last year.
~  spend more time unplugged.  no phone, computer or my device, the iPad.
~  date my husband once a month ... even if it's an at home date.
~  see friends more often.
~  complete all most some of the following projects, in no particular order: sew mudroom bench cushion (fabric and foam are now on hand), paint ombré walls in breakfast nook, wallpaper photo wall upstairs, stencil feature wall in playroom, make cushion covers for pillows in family room and basement, paint dining room, paint garage entry door, cookie jar project, spray our dresser in the master bedroom, install cedar wall in the master bathroom, tile back splash and install cupboards in laundry room, put in photo ledges in office and playroom, make giant chalkboard for the backyard, make potting bench (this is actually one of rob's projects), put together blog books for the last three years, and any other projects that jump into my brain.
~  print more photos for our frames and rotate them more frequently.
~  have more fun and quite worrying about everything else.

i think that pretty well covers it.  it looks like it's going to be a busy year, a lot of projects on this years list.  some of them are carry overs from last year.  meh.  just gonna keep telling myself to get'er done, maybe a get'er started, and not to worry about it.

bring it on 2014, bring it on.
